Limbert Occasional Table
This is an excellent beginner class, which uses beautiful quartersawn white oak (not like this photo, which is mahogany).
There are many basic woodworking skills to learn when building this table which looks simple enough to look at but gets a bit complex when actually building it. Compound angles, pierced cut outs, circle routing, building large panels, attaching table tops to allow for wood movement etc.
Charles Limbert designs are not as well known as Stickley but are every bit as beautiful and timeless. I think this would make a great breakfast, small dinner table in limited space, or even poker table.
A great introduction to the Arts & Crafts Period design.
Class offered Oct. 26-29, 2009
White Oak, etc.: $ 375.
Teaching Fee: $ 800.

You will take a set of 5 graduating size boxes home with you. A very fun class and a good introduction to wood bending.
Class offered Jan. 9- 10, 2010

With the completion of this class you will have the skills to do the joinery of most any Arts & Crafts design. Early sign-ups will have option of using rare spalted quartered sycamore for the top board.

Limbert Magazine Rack |
I designed this piece for a woodworking show our school participated in near Chicago. Quartersawn oak, and through tenons on the top make it a good teaching project. The class is a bit heavy on millwork but you need to learn my production methods for gluing up shelves, tops and panels. Simple edge gluing, jointing, clamping cauls and many other need to know skills. This piece could be used for a sheet music cabinet as well. It is a useful piece of furniture that tames the clutter.

Greene & Greene Table with Drawers |
This table is designed as the companion to the Greene & Greene wall cabinet. It would set underneath the wall cabinet, or any other special location. It was inspired by the Thorsen House Sideboard/Server. This design has a lower apron with decorative slots. The drawer is dovetailed, since the Thorsen House was the only Greene & Greene house with dovetails. The top has the ebony splines inlet into the breadboard ends.

This class is not for beginners and not for the fainthearted. It is intense. Many unusual and new skills for the accomplished wood craftsman are learned in this class. We will use the classic Maloof joint for attaching the seat to the legs. Sculpture is involved by carving with grinders and rasps. Grove Park Inn Rocking Chair
I had a client request 4 reproductions of this chair after enjoying them in the lobby of the famous Grove Park Inn in Asheville, NC many years ago. I measured the original and made patterns and for the classes I added a thru tenon in the top of the arms. This class is a great introduction to the mission style, and has curved work, much pattern routing (done on a shaper in our shop), Mortise & Tenon throughout – including angle tenons. Of course, my favorite is the thru tenon on the arms. Several tips and tricks are in this class, and bring a spoke shave if you have one. George Jones doesn’t need a chair like this because he hasn’t sat in it.

We do analine dye stains, ammonia fuming, glazing stains, lacquer top coats, spray finishing, wipe on varnish, etc. including shellac etc. – well, just take this class and you won’t be disappointed. Water-based top coats are NOT included in this class.

The Gamble House Dining Table
This is the first time I am offering this class, and I consider it to be somewhat advanced. The table is complex and not to be attempted by the faint hearted, unless guided by a competent instructor, such as yours truly. I made my first one in 1997 and the latest one in 2007.
We have 12 days scheduled and will just see how far along we can get in that time. It will be possible to stay for 3 or 4 more days, if necessary – your schedule permitting. We will be veneering the top in a vacuum press. Complete with cross banding. The base is mostly mortise & tenon and the table slides will also be made in the class. Much pattern routing makes the top and the splines – square pegs are ebony. The table is 60” side and 66” long when closed and opens up to 108”. It seats 10-12 persons comfortably when extended. We will be using sapale mahogany throughout. Retail price is $15, 000. This class may not be repeated so if you are interested book early.
Class offered July 26- Aug. 6, 2010
Cost for class for 12 days: $ 1800.
Each extra day: $ 200.
Total Material $ TBA

The Classic Bow Arm Morris Chair
Said to be the most comfortable of all the Morris chairs, I think it is also one of the most fun to build. Using first class quartersawn white oak throughout and the steam bending of the arms is a joy in woodworking not to be missed. We also have simplified the quadralineal quartersawn legs to yield quartersawn grain on all four sides. Beginning lathe work for turning the adjustment pegs is also a new skill for many students. Through loose tenons on the arms is the last technique taught and one of the more difficult. If time permits we also make the foot stool. Forget the lazy boy – come here and make the original recliner, with arms wide enough for your favorite coffee cup.
Class offered Nov 2- 7, 2009 and Mar 1- 6, 2010

Greene & Greene Wall Cabinet
This small curio cabinet was inspired by the wall cabinetry in the Thorsen House dining room. The details are all classic Greene & Greene. The class is fairly straight forward until we make the door, probably one of the most complex small cabinet doors ever conceived. A small project like this, chock full of details is not only fun to make, but a joy to own. This is high art indeed. There is a special small hiding place, but don’t tell anyone! Also available is a weekend glass class to make the stained art glass for the door immediately after the class. Most students do both classes.
Class offered March 8-12, 2010
Materials Fee: $ 200.
Teaching Fee: $750.
Custom made Greene & Greene handles are available for purchase at shop for $70 each. This cabinet is featured in the HGTV Video, as well as some of the glass work. (Watch it on our "Welcome" page.)

Art Glass Class
This class teaches the foil method, developed by Tiffany over 100 years ago. We will begin with the design and make our own patterns through glass cutting and soldering. We will be making the glass panels that fit the cabinet door made the week prior. This is the panel made in the HGTV video on our site. All tools are provided and will be offered for sale in the class. Many colors of glass are available and the choice is yours. One former student said that the most difficult task and the most fun were selecting the glass colors. I found working with glass surprisingly enjoyable because it is so different from working with wood, and I think you will enjoy it as well.
Class offered March 13-14, 2010

If you’ve never made a grandfather clock, it’s not too difficult, just a lot of small details put together into one complex unit. Tall Clocks tend to take on a unique personality in the home. Like a person standing on the watch, chiming out the time as if to say “All’s Well! “ They seem to talk to us reminding how precious time really is in our lives. It truly is worth the time to build.
